It’s hard to think back to a time when the Internet didn’t exist, because in this day and age, we have all become so reliant on the helpfulness of the WWW. Since we tend to take our relationship with the Internet for granted, it only feels right to take some time and ~reflect~ on the many, many wonderful things it has – and continues – to teach us. So here’s to you Internet, for being the communicator of our generation, and always taking time to refresh our minds – and webpages.

Wikipedia Knows All

Source: People

I don’t think I would have gotten through university if it weren’t for Wikipedia (sorry library). Whether you need to fully grasp the concept of Marxism or find out if Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears really broke up three times, Wikipedia can quickly and efficiently answer any of your queries. I always feel bad when the site is like “Plz donate – we rely on ppl like you” because I feel like I owe the Wiki family my undergrad degree, but then again I also owe the bank, so…

How Large Kim Kardashian’s Pregnant Feet Are

Due to the explosion of paparazzi and gossip sites, you can find out what your celebrity crush is doing (and looks like) at all times of every day. Want to know who wore no make-up and sweats to Target in West Hollywood yesterday? Perez Hilton can tell you! How did people get their daily intake of gossip important information before the Internet???

Hilarious Animal Videos Are Addictive

Who can get through a workday without YouTube-ing a few hilarious pet vids? Not me, that’s for sure. From Maru sliding into boxes to that dog that can speak human, funny clips of animals keep us happy. The beauty of the Internet is that you can view and share your favourite videos instantaneously, giving your IRL friends something to LOL about online. Now if I could only get my oversized cat to perform a few tricks maybe I could retire early… :@

You Can Become Famous… Fast

Thanks to the power of YouTube, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram and all those other fun online things, ordinary people (yes, like you and me) can become online CeLebRiTiEs before you can say, “dial-up is dead”. I once knew a girl who was super quiet in person, but on the Internet, she had like, 5 million friends. I don’t know how she passed school because keeping up with that many followers on Twitter alone would be a full-time job. I guess that’s why I keep a “low profile”. #Badjoke.

The Fake News of a Celebrity’s Death

Source: Yahoo!

Now I’m not sure WHO starts these strange yet fascinating rumors, but the faux deaths of celebrities seems to be a reoccurring topic of conversation on the web. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve Googled “Lou Bega – dead?”, I would have made back the money I spent on his (only) CD.

Other People Are as Equally Crazy/Weird/Quirky as You Are

Source: Farmville

The great thing about the Internet is that it’s essentially a virtual “safe space” for people to share and embrace how ~individual~ they really are. None of your friends still like to play Neopets until four in the morning? No worries, there’s an online community for that! Need some more convincing? Just Google any embarrassing question you may have and I guarantee you will find a Yahoo! forum for it. Or just read Reddit; that always makes me feel better about myself.

Thank you, Internet.
